A special thank you to
Glen Cox of Wild Hare Photography and Karen Schlottach for taking pictures and
helping us to document the Old Dominion Gold Cup Shows. I would not be able to
present the story without their expertise and generosity.
We had four Mini Silky Shows in one day. There was one set of classes in the morning judged simultaneously and independently by two judges. At the end of each class each judge's placements were announced and ribbons were awarded. Because of the time restraints, the judges did not give oral reasons for their placements. Exhibitors who wanted a verbal critique from the judge, talked with the judge(s) after the show. This same format was repeated in the afternoon. Champion legs were awarded in each division, under each judge. The show was a smashing success as we had three Miniature Silkies finish their Master Championship at these shows as well as five other Mini Silkies who achieved Championship Legs toward their Master Championships.

Gold Cup Trophies were awarded for each Best In Show and a Gold Cup was awarded
to the Best Coat In Show. Best Coat In Show was judged between the morning
and afternoon classes. It was judged by all 4 judges in concert. There was
only ONE Best Coat In Show Awarded from all four shows. This is a very
prestigious win.
There were also Judge's awards that were awarded to the Mini Silky or person of each Judge's choosing for special recognition independent of class placements.
This year we offered a costume class again,
with a great turn out of beautiful costumes and Mini Silkies. It was a great
additional class
for a day of Mini Silky fun.

Getting Started

Above in the picture to
the left is our two morning judges, on the left is Sharon Miller, on the right
is Dawn Hawthorne and in back of them is Steve Orr, our show clerk. The picture
above to the right is of Steve Orr, our show clerk having an exhibitor's
meeting. In the exhibitor's meeting, he explains how the shows will run, where
to wear your armbands and how important it is to keep the shows running smoothly
and quickly as we had 4 judgings to get through in one day. Thanks to Steve the
show ran smoothly.

Above to the left is a
picture of Janet Shlanta, our official measurer and check in person for the
shows. Volunteers like Janet are so important; we are lucky to have folks like
Janet in our area, who are always willing to pitch in and do what they can to
help. The trophy table is set up with trophies, rosettes and ribbons for the
morning shows, we are just about ready to begin.

Soon the trophies,
ribbons and rosettes moved from the trophy table to the
trophy trailers. What fun!!!

Sometimes getting
out of one class and getting the entries for the next class was a real
challenge. Everyone was great though and thanks to fast acting folks like Keli
and Abby Harold, pictured above, the four shows went off without a hitch.
Class Judging

These were our four judges who did a tremendous job. Although you can't see the
judges really well in these shots you can see how hard they worked, each one is
shown here carefully evaluating each goat's fiber, one of the important features
that makes our breed unique and different from the other goat breeds. We are
very grateful for all the time and thought that these judges put into their
decisions. From left to right is Karin King, Sharon Miller, Dawn Hawthorne and
Sharon Joly.

In spite of all the
rushing and grooming, there was time to share a special moment in time with the
ones so dear to our hearts.

Before we knew it,
the day was over, the awards had been given out and now it was time to pack up
and go home. A day full of hard work, good food, good company and a lot of fun.
